Standard Levels of Certifications

Pipette Report
- This certification includes:
  • Documentation of each pipette by serial/ID number
  • Gravimetric inspection of each pipette
  • Disassembly and thorough cleaning of each pipette
  • Change seal and o-ring and/or lubricate piston, according to manufacturer
  • Reassemble each pipette
  • Recalibrate each pipette according to manufacturers' specifications
  • Pipettes that do not "PASS" are taken out of service and tagged as a failure
  • Calibration label is fastened to each pipette

Level 1
- This is the certification which is used by most University laboratories that focus on basic research at the undergraduate and graduate level. This certification includes all of the field report service above, plus:
  • Documentation of four final readings at the high volume level of the pipette certifying the pipette as "Pass"
  • Documentation of replacement parts
  • Pipettes that do not "PASS" are taken out of service and tagged as a "FAIL"

Level 2
- This certification is used by laboratories that are regulated most commonly by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) or Clinical Lab Improvement Accreditation (CLIA). It includes all of the Level 1 above, plus:
  • Documentation includes four readings at the low & high volumes for both "as found" and "as left" data for each pipette
  • Documentation can be handwritten or computer processed

Level 3
- This is the highest level of certification. This certification is used by many large corporations and high-level research facilities that need actual certificates for each pipette. This certification includes all of the level 2 above, plus:
  • Documentation includes four readings at the low, mid & high volumes based on manufacturer's requirements for the "as found" and "as left" data
  • Environmental conditions are recorded
  • Each certificate is computer generated and uses actual manufacturer's specifications to calculate the accuracy of the pipette. This will be provided to the customer via e-mail, as well as hard copy
  • NIST Traceable Balance Calibration Certificate is provided
